Elder Abuse Program
Every year, tens of thousands of elderly Americans are abused in their own homes, in relatives' homes and even in facilities responsible for their care. Elder abuse can include physical violence, neglect, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, exploitation or abandonment. It is believed that 84% of domestic elder abuse goes unreported.
At Metro Health, we treasure the elderly members of our community. Their contribution to society cannot be underestimated or overvalued. In October of 2008, in response to the growing and devastating social crisis, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan awarded Metro Health a grant to develop a program to help health care providers in Michigan identify, address and assist victims of elder abuse. The Metro Health team has delivered this elder abuse curriculum to various Federally Qualified Health Centers across Michigan. We are grateful to BCBSM for joining the Metro Health team in efforts to protect and defend the rights of our aging population, preventing harm from occurring to others and rescuing those in danger.
