Metro Health is proud of the many local, regional and national awards we have received. Some of our recent honors include:

  • Recipient of the PEAK (Performance Excellence, Achievement and Knowledge) Award for sustained excellent performance in the Patient Experience category. April 2010, April 2011
  • Recipient of Level 2b Accreditation for Bariatric Surgery Program from the Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons. November 2010
  • Recipient of the Merck Excellence in Diabetes Care Award from the American Osteopathic Foundation for work in advancing diabetes education and treatment. November 2010
  • Awarded with the ASGE Certificate of Recognition of Quality in Endoscopy from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). Metro Health Outpatient Endoscopy was recognized as a unit that promotes quality in endoscopy through the ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program (EURP). November 2010
  • Recognized for our contribution to the West Michigan Glycemic Collaborative (WMGC) with Saint Mary’s Health Care and Spectrum Health and Diabetes Care Centers by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. April 2010
  • Named among the Top 10 Percent of Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities for delivering effective, efficient and patient-centered care by the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation. 2009
  • Recognized with an Excellence Through Insight Award from HealthStream Research for Overall Emergency Department Satisfaction, Overall Outpatient Satisfaction and Overall Inpatient Satisfaction for medium-sized hospitals, as well as most improved overall outpatient satisfaction. Additionally, three units were recognized for their overall satisfaction score: Inpatient-Med Surg, Outpatient-Lab and Outpatient Radiology/Imaging. 2009
  • As part of the West Michigan Glycemic Collaborative, Metro Health Hospital was recognized as the Diabetes Champion of the Year by the Michigan ADA. This was based on innovative approaches to the management of diabetes. October 2009
  • Recognized with the Outstanding Performance on Dysphagia Screening by the Michigan Stroke Registry and Quality Improvement Project and the Michigan Department of Community Health. 2009
  • Recognized with the Outstanding Patient Experience Award from HealthGrades for superior patient satisfaction. 2009
  • Recipient of the MIDAS+ Platinum Quality Award for 2007. The award was based on performance in various medical conditions and procedures. April 2009
  • Recipient of the PEAK (Performance Excellence, Achievement and Knowledge) Award for top performance in core measures for Heart Failure Care and Pneumonia Care. April 2009
  • Recipient of the 2007 Governor’s Award for Appropriate Care Measures, Surgical Care Improvement, and Emergency Department Measures. September 2008

  • Named a 100 Top Hospitals National Award winner in the teaching hospitals category by Thomson Reuters, an independent leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care. The award honors hospitals that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, financial performance, efficiency and other benchmarks when compared against their peers. More than 2,800 hospitals nationwide were analyzed; Metro Health is the only hospital in the greater Grand Rapids area to be named as a winner.   • Recognized with an Excellence Through Insight Award from HealthStream Research for overall inpatient satisfaction in the medium hospital category for 2007.
  • Recognized by HealthGrades Inc. for earning an award for Excellence in Critical Care and distinctions for Orthopedic Surgery Five Stars and Pulmonary Care Five Stars for 2008. HealthGrades Inc. is a private company that rates doctors and hospitals and provides information on a broader range of outcomes. HealthGrades offers data on more than 5,000 hospitals derived from Medicare billing data that is used to calculate the rate of complications or deaths for 31 procedures.   • Metro Health was one of only 18 hospitals in Michigan to receive the 2006 Governor’s Recognition of Excellence for Appropriate Care Measures (ACM) Award in the areas of pneumonia, heart failure and heart attack. September 2007
  • Recipient of the 2006 Governor’s Award for Improving Patient Safety and Quality of Care in the Hospital Setting in three categories: Emergency Department, SCIP and Systems Improvement – Health Information Technology (HIT) for Bar Coding Level I and CPOE Level I. September 2007
  • Recipient of Governor’s Award of Excellence for Inpatient Services, Emergency Services, and Physician Office Services, 2003, 2004, 2005, & 2006. (mpro.org)
  • Recipient of the 2006 Excellence through Insight Awards for Overall Emergency Department Satisfaction, Inpatient – OB/GYN, Outpatient – Rehabilitation, and Outpatient – Endoscopy by HealthStream Research. These awards recognize hospitals that excel in their ability to gain insight into their patients, employees, physicians and community through research to build excellence within their organization.   • Awarded the "Get With The Guidelines-Stroke" Annual Performance Achievement Award from the American Stroke Association. June 2007
  • Honored with the SCIP6 Commitment to Quality Award on behalf of the six Medicare-designated Quality Improvement Organizations hosting the project (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin). Metro Health was awarded for its efforts to improve the delivery of care as a dedicated and active member of the six state surgical care improvement project (SCIP6). (mpro.org) March 2007

  • Awarded Making Medicine Mercury Free Award (a one-time recognition given to facilities that have met the challenge of becoming virtually mercury free) (2006) and the Partners for Change Award (an annual award recognizing Metro Health’s significant progress toward reducing waste, preventing pollution and eliminating mercury) by Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E). April 2006 & 2007
  • Best Acute-Care Hospitals Award from Total Benchmark Solutions (TBS). The award was given based on 2005 quality measurements provided by health care organizations to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Metro Health was recognized for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia care. More than 2,600 hospitals were evaluated as part of the process. January 2007
  • Chosen by CareScience as a Select Practice National Quality Leader in the Category of Medically Managed Acute Myocardial Infarction (heart attack) for demonstrating a combination of superior clinical outcomes and exceptional efficiency of medically managed heart attacks when compared to other hospitals in the U.S. (carescience.com) 2006
  • Selected as a Diabetic Center of Excellence by two of the nation’s leading authorities, the American Diabetic Association and NCQA (the National Committee for Quality Assurance). (ncqa.org) 2006
  • Finalist for Business Review’s Innovation Michigan Award for establishing protocols and controls to standardize and approve its approach to managing diabetes, including a new evaluation template, reaching out to patients to ensure proper routine exams, instituting treatment parameters, increasing diabetes education and reporting all data to the Chronic Disease Electronic Management System.   • Received TBS’s Top 100 Quality Award recognizing Metro Health Hospital’s overall performance on Medicare’s "Hospital Compare" website based on 2004 data.
