Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals Organization (JCAHO)
This certification is granted to
those hospitals that have a proven acute stroke treatment program that meets
guidelines set forth by the American Stroke Association, the Brain Attack
Coalition and JCAHO. Some of the guidelines include: a designated stroke unit,
Rapid emergency department response to stroke patients, neuroimaging services
available 24/7 with results available in 45 minutes or less, and a stroke CQI
process. Currently Metro is one of two hospitals in Grand Rapids with this certification.
