The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals
Patient safety is very important at Metro Health. One of the ways Metro Health improves the safety of the healthcare it delivers is compliance with the National Patient Safety Goals. National Patient Safety Goals were developed by a team of patient safety experts, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, risk managers and others with experience addressing patient safety issues. Each year, new goals are identified through literature and data base reviews. Input on potential new goals is obtained from practitioners, purchasers, consumer groups and others before their adoption and implementation by the Joint Commission.
"The 2007 National Patient Safety Goals target critical areas where patient safety can be improved through specific actions in health care organizations," says Dennis S. O'Leary, M.D., president, Joint Commission. "Organizations that truly integrate these requirements into their daily operations will realize major opportunities to improve patient safety."
