Return to News & Events

Grand Rapids, Michigan, September 14, 2007  - The Metro Health Hospital Foundation has approved more than $111,000 in grants to support programs and services provided by the Hospital.

Eleven grants ranging from $3,300 to $46,728 will support a wide variety of initiatives, including the purchase of new equipment and the enhancement or expansion of services.

"Our mission is to promote the health and well being of the community in West Michigan," said Foundation Chief Development Officer Laura Staskiewicz. "These grants will help us reach that end by providing funding that not only enhances and expands current services and programs, but also introduces new ones. The Foundation will allocate more than $386,000 in 2007, and we are thrilled to be able to provide this financial support to the Hospital through these grant programs."

The 2007 summer grants include:

  • Funds to support self-management education for outpatient clients with diabetes and who are unable to pay for the program personally.
  • An office hysteroscopy system, which helps improve the assessment, early treatment and intervention of obstetrics and gynecological issues.  It also allows patients to undergo procedures using only local anesthesia.
  • Physical medicine and radiology equipment that provides more accurate diagnosis and precise treatment for those with swallowing issues.
  • Funds to support educational tools for cardiac patients.
  • A one-year subscription to a Web-based platform, which will make continuing education available to nurses and other healthcare providers on a round-the-clock basis.
