Metro Health to Sponsor National Kidney Foundation of Michigan Fundraiser

Return to News & Events

As part of its ongoing commitment to help residents in West Michigan improve their health and well-being, Metro Health will serve as the presenting sponsor of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan's annual fundraiser.

More than 600 West Michigan residents are expected to participate in the 12th annual Kidney Walk, a three-mile walk that will take place Sunday, April 27.  Organizers hope to raise more than $100,000 with all proceeds staying in the local community to help fund a variety of patient and community services through the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.

"Metro Health has long been supportive of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan's mission of raising both funds for, and awareness of, kidney disease," said Mike Faas, CEO and president of Metro Health.  "Its exemplary work in the areas of the early detection, as well as its educational and support programs for patients and their families, aligns closely with Metro Health's commitment to help improve the health and well being of people living in our community.  We are pleased to be able to assist NKFM in its efforts this year by being a presenting corporate sponsor."

More than 26 million Americans are living with kidney disease, including approximately 769,000 in Michigan.  Last year alone the NKFM was able to provide programs and health services, made possible by special activities such as the Kidney Walk, to nearly 9,700 area residents.

Registration for the event will begin at noon at the Fifth Third Ballpark with the walk starting at 1 p.m. Walkers will follow a three-mile paved route along the scenic White Pine Trail and will receive a free lunch courtesy Brann's Steakhouse and Grille after the walk ends.

While a minimum of $100 in sponsorships is suggested, there is no entry fee or team requirement to participate and the event is open to everyone of all ages.  To register, secure sponsor forms and learn more, go online to http://www.kidneywalk.org/ or call the NKFM office in Grand Rapids at 616.458.9520. On-site registrations will also be accepted.
