Alice St. Clair Receives Lifetime Volunteer Award

Return to News & Events

In recognition of nearly 20 years for work as a breast cancer activist, Alice St. Clair has been awarded the annual Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer Award by Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

St. Clair, marketing specialist for Metro Health Hospital, was presented with the award at Komen's 2008 affiliate leadership conference in Dallas, Texas.  Established in 1998, the annual award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of individual volunteers and groups of volunteers within the Komen Affiliate Network and pays special tribute to a breast cancer activist who best serves as a role model.

"We are privileged to have Alice on the Metro Health team, and value all she has to offer, both professionally and personally," said Mike Faas, president and CEO of Metro Health.  "Her long-standing commitment to fighting breast cancer is an inspiration to all of us.  We encourage all of our employees to give back to the communities in which we live and work, and we join with Komen for the Cure in recognizing the exceptional volunteer work of Alice."

A former television news anchor, St. Clair first became involved with Komen for the Cure in 1989 when she served as media spokesperson for the Komen Peoria Memorial Race for the Cure while living in Peoria, Illinois. She then volunteered at the first Komen Grand Rapids Race for the Cure after moving to the West Michigan area in 1998.

Since that time, St. Clair has served in a variety of roles for Komen's Grand Rapids affiliate, including local affiliate president from 2003-2005. During her tenure as board member from 2001-2007, St. Clair was part of the national brand transition team that helped Komen launch a new logo and brand identity.
