Metro Health Village Adds Adult Respite Day-Care Provider

Return to News & Events

Metro Health has announced that SarahCare® Adult Day Care Center has opened its first West Michigan location in the Metro Health Village.

SarahCare is a nationwide franchise that provides health-related assistance during the day to seniors who do not require round-the-clock nursing care yet can benefit from supervised activities and health-related services. Located at 2024 Health Drive, Suite B, in the Metro Health Village in Wyoming, the center offers a full range of services including individualized activity programs, personal care, nursing services and respite care for family caregivers.

This is the one of only two SarahCare centers in the state and will be operated by Kendra Schumaker.  She is a licensed social worker, who has been in the health care field for more than 17 years.  SarahCare currently has more than 60 centers in 18 different states across the United States.

SarahCare® is now open and is enrolling new participants. SarahCare will be the 21st business to locate in the 170-acre health care village.

"The decision by SarahCare to locate at Metro Health Village fits in well with our vision of creating a health-care village that offers a comprehensive range of health-related services in a single stop," said Mike Faas, president and CEO of Metro Health. "Many of us now belong to the ‘sandwich generation,' where we are simultaneously caring for our children and our parents. SarahCare fills a vital role in our community, and we are pleased that the organization has decided to locate in the Village."

Part of an emerging national trend, demand for adult day-care centers has been growing between five to 15 percent a year. According to the National Adult Day Services Association, 150,000 residents take advantage of these centers each day. Some industry estimates report adult day-care serves at least 400,000 people nationally.

"SarahCare is the perfect fit, expanding the breadth and scope of health-related services now found at Metro Health Village," said Faas.
