Building on successes the past two years at its former Grand Rapids location, Metro Health Hospital will again host a community-wide farmers' market this summer for Wyoming-area residents, hospital visitors, physicians and employees.
Area farmers will sell fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, breads, flowers, dips and other locally grown and produced foods in the Granger Village Green, located on Main Street in Metro Health Village. The market, which is the first and only one of its kind in the Wyoming area, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday beginning June 19. It is free and open to the public.
With support from the Metro Health Hospital Foundation, this year's farmers' market will offer a welcome tent that will house free health education events focused on prevention and wellness. Different health screens and information will be offered each week.
Metro began hosting the market, which started as an initiative to encourage employees to live healthier lifestyles, on a biweekly basis at its former Grand Rapids location three years ago. Since then it has grown into a community-wide event that attracts several hundred visitors each week. Due to increased demand, 2008 marks the first year Metro will hold the market on a weekly basis.
