Metro Health Hospital has received its third national award for its efforts to reduce waste and prevent pollution. Metro Health received its third consecutive Partners for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth for its commitment to environmental sustainability in the healthcare setting. Specifically, Metro Health:
- Increased recycling by 80 percent from 2005 to 2007 for a total of 56 tons
- Reduced its regulated medical waste by 13 percent for a total of six tons
- Hosted a monthly farmers' market open to hospital staff, patients, their families and the nearby community
The Partner for Change award recognizes facilities that continuously improve and expand upon their waste reduction, mercury elimination and pollution prevention programs.
