Metro Health has received the 2008 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence for its work in the area of heart failure and pneumonia. The regional health-care organization was in the top 10 percent of national performance standards over four quarters in 2006-07.
VHA, Inc. is a national health care alliance that annually honors hospitals for meeting or exceeding national performance standards for clinical care in specific areas. VHA tracked hospital performance on a quarterly basis and recognized hospitals that either showed continuous improvement or whose average scores put their facility at the top of the nation.
"Across the nation, the pressure is on hospitals to improve their clinical performance," said Dr. Trent Haywood, chief medical officer at VHA. "Metro Health has responded and excelled in this environment."
