Metro Health Opens Downtown Surgery Center

Return to News & Events

To provide greater access to more patients, Metro Health Hospital announced toay that it has opened a surgery center in downtown Grand Rapids.

The MidTowne Surgery Center LLC, located at 555 MidTowne NE, will provide outpatient surgery to men, women and children.  Located in the heart of the downtown Medical Mile, MidTowne Surgery Center occupies the second floor - more than 17,000 square feet - of the Women's Health Center.

The facility features three state-of-the-art operating suites where physicians will perform surgical procedures in a number of areas, including:

  • Foot and ankle
  • Orthopedic, including knee and shoulder scopes
  • Urological
  • Gynecological
  • Ear, nose and throat
  • Cosmetic

"For the past 3 years, Metro Health has been searching for an appropriate second site where we can provide outpatient surgical services," said Mike Faas, president and CEO.  "Input from patients and physicians, as well as increasing demand, prompted us to select a location on the Medical Mile.

"Our new MidTowne Surgical Center will provide a convenient alternative for patients in Northern Kent County and surrounding areas.  Not only does the facility have easy access from I-196, it is close to a number of medical practices that will complement the services we deliver."

The MidTowne Surgery Center is a subsidiary of Metro Health.  As demand increases, Metro Health plans to expand the breadth and scope of surgical services offered.

The MidTowne Surgery Center was designed by architect Jeffrey P. Hunt of Craig Architects, Inc.

The pre-op areas received special design consideration to create an environment for patients that is comfortable, private and secure as they prepare for surgery.  The post-op area is designed for staff efficiency and patient accessibility. It features access to plenty of natural daylight, which studies show speeds patient recovery time, improves mood and decreases stress.
