Metro Health Hospital is home to the nationally recognized Amputation Prevention Program, which has a great track record in preventing the loss of legs and feet to complications from diabetes and peripheral artery disease.
The program will be the focus of the Metro Health Hospital Foundation annual black-tie fundraiser, Feelin’ Grand, on Saturday, Sept. 25.
“Our vascular surgeons have an ambitious goal: End the use of amputation as a treatment for PAD at Metro Health this year,” said Laura Staskiewicz, chief development officer of the Metro Health Hospital Foundation. “We have made great progress along this front, and the support of our donors through Feelin’ Grand 2010 can further help us in our effort to save limbs – and improve the quality of our patients’ lives.”
More than 12 million U.S. residents suffer from PAD, and annually more than 150,000 will lose a leg to the disease, which narrows arteries and restricts blood flow. 
Feelin’ Grand will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception and social hour at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids. Dinner will follow at 7 p.m. Comedian Henry Cho will provide entertainment for the event, which will also feature dancing.
Feelin’ Grand, is Metro Health’s annual black-tie event that has been held since 1993 with a special beneficiary for each year. In 2009, the Foundation raised more than $340,000 to support Metro Care, which provides discounted health services and a payment plan for community residents without adequate health insurance.
