Metro Health and the University of Michigan Health System today announced a joint venture to offer radiation oncology services at Metro Health's new 21,500-square-foot Cancer Center at Metro Health Village in Wyoming.
The Cancer Center will operate under the direction of Michael Zakem, DO, a partner with the Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan, and a Director of Radiation Oncology will be named this fall.
Building on successes the past two years at its former Grand Rapids location, Metro Health Hospital will again host a community-wide farmers' market this summer for Wyoming-area residents, hospital visitors, physicians and employees.
Metro Health has joined the American Heart Association as the Inspire Change sponsor for its Start! initiative in West Michigan. This initiative will educate area residents about heart disease, stroke and ways to lower their risk from these diseases which account for about 35 percent of all deaths in the area.
Metro Health Hospital is the only hospital in West Michigan to participate in a state-wide study to improve the quality of stroke care in Michigan.
