In recognition of May being designated national Stroke Month, Metro Health is offering West Michigan residents the opportunity to evaluate their risk of stroke and learn about stroke prevention and warning signs.
In a continuing effort to promote early detection, Metro Health will once again provide a free screening for prostate cancer. Screening is recommended for men beginning at age 50 who have not had an exam in the past year and have never been diagnosed with prostate cancer. African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer should begin annual screenings at the age of 40.
For the second year in a row, Metro Health Hospital has been named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals by a leading independent survey.
Metro Health has joined the American Heart Association as the Inspire Change sponsor for its Start! initiative in West Michigan. This initiative will educate area residents about heart disease, stroke and ways to lower their risk from these diseases which account for about 35 percent of all deaths in the area.
Metro Health Hospital is the only hospital in West Michigan to participate in a state-wide study to improve the quality of stroke care in Michigan.
